Meeting Highlights

 

The following are highlights from our last business meeting. This is not meant to replace the official meeting minutes. The intent is to inform all of our members on our activities. Applications for new membership: Two (Approved by Members); The supply of Form 100's will be replenished in the church's vestibule area. 

 

The treasurer reported our new balance as: $2,955.85

 

New Reports and Actions:

 

  • NC State Deputy has requested that all councils encourage their members to join the Michael J. McGivney Guild in observance of Columbus Day
  • Peter Kraehenbuhl has resigned as financial secretary due to health reasons.  Mike Benigno will assume Peter's duties.  Mike's official application for financial secretary has been submitted to Supreme for approval.
  • Jim Haag asked for a volunteer for one phone tree caller.
  • Our council was invited to a private showing of the film "Bella" on October 4 at Cardinal Gibbons High School.
  • Right-to-Life:  Tom Lindsey mentioned the upcoming RTL activities:  Life Chain in front of St. Raphael's Church on 10/7/07; Benefit for Life Gala on 10/25/07; Raleigh-for-Life on 1/12/08; and the National March for Life in Washington, D.C. on 1/22/08.
  • Joe Cox  reported that the concrete foundation for the new barbecue grill/pit has been poured.  Volunteers from the council will be needed to perform the required brick/block work.
  • Upcoming Youth ProgramsYouth Group fundraiser selling box lunches on November 11.
  • The next coporate mass is scheduled for October 20 at the 5:30 p.m. mass.  All members of the council are invited to attend.
  • Frank Sancenito explained the car raffle details and stated that 40 tickets had been sold to date.  The drawing for the raffle is on November 10.  District Deputy, Joe Sellenbeck, will spread the word about the car raffle to other councils in the area.
  • Frank Sancenito mentioned that the cooking and setup for the parish picnic will start at 8:00 a.m. on 10/14.  All Knights were invited to help.
  • Operation Lamb will be held at the Harris Teeter on Falls of the Neuse and Durant during the last weekend in October and the first weekend in November.  Members will work 2-hour shifts from Friday through Sunday each weekend.  Larry Opansenko reminded members that there are still time slots open.  Matt Aremia has also asked the Vita Nova & Carpe Diem kids for help.
  • "Keep Christ in Christmas":  Terry Whalen reported that the Christmas cards have been purchased and will be sold after masses from mid-October through mid-November.  All proceeds go to Birthchoice.  Volunteers are needed to help at all masses.
  • Ron Phillips asked for a donation of $100 from the council to help fund the lift-chair needed by Liam O'Connor.  A lift-chair was also purchased for Peter Kraehenbuhl by the Maloney family.  The council voted to request donations from the members that would be split between Liam O'Connor and Peter Kraehenbuhl.  An email will be sent to all council members requesting donations.  Joe Rothengast will coordinate the collection of donations and all checks should be made out to "K of C Council 12455". 
  • Terry Whalen mentioned that letters were sent to all area Grand Knights by the Catholic Parish Outreach (CPO) requesting donations.  The CPO has seen a 94% increase in food needs during the past five years.  The council voted to donate all proceeds from the 12/7/07 Pancake Breakfast to the CPO.
  • RBC Center Program:  Gary Corsmeier will meet with an RBC representative to sign up for a 10-game/event package for volunteer work.
  • Joe Sellenbeck reported that a fourth degree is scheduled for 10/20/07 in Concord, NC and a third degree is scheduled for 10/6/07 in Wilson, NC.
