Meeting Highlights

 

The following are highlights from our last business meeting. This is not meant to replace the official meeting minutes. The intent is to inform all of our members on our activities. Meeting Date: Wednesday, June 4, 2008 @ 7:30 p.m.

 

Applications for new membership:  N/A.  (Three members are expected to attend the 3rd Degree exemplification on June 7 in Garner.)

 

Treasurer's Report:  Our new balance is $4,025.03.

 

Reports and Actions:

        

  • Nomination of New Officers/Elections: Nominees for new Council officers were voted on by members and elected by "acclamation".  The new officers are: Grand Knight - Terry Whalen, Deputy Grand Knight - Joe Rothengast, Chancellor - John Kupec, Treasurer - Gary Corsmeier, Recorder - David Sofra, Advocate - Jim Kuszaj, Warden - Matt Aremia, Inside Guard - John Bilmeyer, and Outside Guard - Tom Lindsey. 
  • Jim Haag thanked the following: the members who helped move Peter Kraehenbuhl to his new apartment, congratulations to the four Knights who made their 2nd Degree on May 31, and congratulations to James Dasher on the baptism of his infant son.
  • Financial Secretary's Report:  The Council has 115 members to date.  Thirty-one members still owe annual dues for 2008.     
  • Upcoming Activites/Events:  June 7 - Ordination of Deacon Mike Spurr / June 8 - Father Mike Spurr's first mass at St. Luke's 10:30 a.m. mass (Help is needed for the parish reception after mass) / June 8 - BBQ for party at Rectory @ 6:30 p.m. (Joe Cox requested help for setup and cooking/serving) / June 14 - Adopt-a Highway
  • Jim Haag passed around a sign-up sheet for the upcoming Council opportunites for service.
  • At the 5/7/08 meeting, a motion was made to donate $600.00 to Mike Spurr as a gift for his ordination on June 7.  The motion was seconded and approved by the membership.  A motion was then made to purchase life insurance for Mike Spurr at a one-time cost of $50.00.  This motion was seconded and approved. A motion was also made, seconded, and approved to purchase similar insurance for Matt Baugh (Jesuit seminarian). 
  • BBQ Pit:  Joe Cox stated that work on the pit will continue through the Summer, as possible, with the cover/pavillion construction deferred to the Fall..
  • Ignatian Retreat: 20 men have registered to date for the upcoming retreat on June 20 & 21.
  • Terry Whalen reported that the Catholic Parish Outreach "Night out for Hunger" raised close to $2,000.  The CPO is also moving to a new facility in August.
  • New Business:  

                   All Saints Academy has requested help from the Council to conduct a fundraiser for moving to a new school facility.  Possible ideas: talent show, BBQ Dinner.

                   Purchase/set up a plaque for "Knight of the Month" and "Family of the Month" awardees.  Eb Moore and Bill Dougherty volunteered to work on this project.

                   Develop a team to assist/visit Peter Kraehenbuhl during the day and any other time help is needed.  Joe Cox suggested opening this opportunity up to the Parish.  This item  will                                             be discussed further at the July meeting.

                   The Council was asked to help with the Special Olympics.  This will be discussed at the next meeting.
